brief introduction

BAND is the latest product from NHN Group, which is known as LINE.
BAND is the latest product from NHN Group, a Korean company known as LINE, and it is an application that makes the group function more detailed. BAND was launched two years ago in Korea and now has over 10 million registered users, according to officials.
We often create groups in WeChat, like I have "TechNode Family", "TN Content" and other groups. This setup helps us to roam freely among different groups. But you know, except for sending videos, pictures, voice, and text, WeChat does not have any features designed to help the "team building" level.
Then we come to the "hair status" that has tangled many people: "Xiaofeng, went to eat barbecue again yesterday? Didn't you say you didn't have time to write the manuscript?" "......" pulling him black is impossible, selective grouping and completely not my personality, can there be a better solution? (Note: The above paragraph is purely fictional, otherwise what I heard must be, "Xiaofeng, come here, I promise not to kill you.")
Let's see how BAND solves these pain points.

You can divide your friends into specific groups by nature (family, friends, colleagues, etc.) when you invite them at the beginning. This way the status you post can only be seen by the members of the group. For example, I created a group called "TechNode" and my friends can join it only after they receive my invitation code.

The functions of BAND are roughly listed as follows.

Posting "statuses" containing photos, videos, polls, files, geolocation, to-do lists, AA collections, etc.
IM chat, allowing group chats as well as single chats.
Create a team calendar, providing the ability to attend, decline, etc.
Compared with adding on status and calendar, BAND subtracts on IM chat function: it cuts out the functions of WeChat such as sending video and real-time intercom, and only provides simple functions such as sending pictures, voice, and text. It seems that it still advocates for users to post more status.
However, my company colleagues were not very active after they got my invitation code to join BAND. Why is that so? From my point of view, BAND does not provide substantial features that are different from WeChat, it just transplants the features from WeChat IM chat to the "status" feature. The design of the team calendar function is a bit rough, "Wonderful List" and other products that focus on collaborative work are a few blocks away from it.

Is there any value in BAND?
In fact, the designers of this product, which comes from the same family as Line, did not want to label it as "closed social" as the latter, but BAND differentiates itself from the competition and focuses on open social. To put it differently, BAND is not a social app for acquaintances, but for strangers and interests.
